WILLIAM WORDSWORTH

LIFE

WILLIAM WORDSWORTH WAS BORN IN THE ENGLISH LAKE DISTRIC.HE WAS EDUCATED IN CAMBRIDGE AND IN1790 HE WENT ON A WALKING TOUR IN FRANCE.

IN THIS JOURNEY HE KNOWN THE REVOLUTIONARY IDEAS THAT THERE WERE IN FRENCH IN THAT PERIOD.

HE FELT IN LOVE WITH A FRENCH GIRL AND HE HAD A GIRL BUT FROM NOW WE DON'T KNOW  ANYTHING OF THEM.

THE FAILURE OF THE REVOLUTIONARY IDEALS AND THE WAR BETWEEN FRENCH AND ENGLAND  CAUSE HIM A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN SO HE WENT TO LIVE WITH HIS SISTER,THE MAIN SUPPORTER OF HIS WORKS.

HE MOVED TO SOMERSET TO BE NEAR HIS BEST FRIEND,THE POET COLERIDGE.

THEY PRODUCED TOGHETER A POEM,THE LYRICAL BALLADS:IT OPENS WITH COLERIDGE ANCIENT MARINER AND ENDED WITH WORDSWORTH TINTERN ABBEY.

THE SECOND EDITION OF THIS POEM,PUBLISHED IN 1800,CONTAINED ALSO THE FAMOUS WORDSWORTH PREFACE THAT BECAME THE ROMANTIC POETICAL MANIFESTO.

THEY MOVED TO THE LAKE DISTRIC.WORDSWORTH  MARRIED A CHILDOOD FRIEND AND HAD 5 CHILDREN.

IN THE SAME PERIOD HE WROTE HIS MASTER PIECE,THE PRELUDE,AN AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL POEM IN 14 BOOKS.

HE DEATH IN 1850.

THE PREFACE-THE MANIFESTO OF ENGLISH ROMANTICISM

IT WASN'T WILLIAM'S INTENTION TO WRITE A LIST OF RULES FOR THE POETRY OF THAT PERIOD.

HE WROTE ONLY THAT POETRY SHOULD DEAL WITH EVERYDAY SITUATIONS AND COMMON PEOPLE SO THE LANGUAGE SHOULD BE VERY SIMPLE .

THE POET HAVE TO WRITE ABOUT SUBJECTS THAT INTEREST OTHERS MEN.

IN WORDSWORTH POETRY WE ALSO FIND A GREAT MORALISING AIM

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MAN AND NATURAL WORDL

BETWEEN MAN AND NATURE THERE IS A COMPLEX INTERATION,MAN'S SENSATIONS,EMOTIONS.. ARE REALLY INFLUNCED BY NATURAL WORDL.

WORDSWORTH WAS VERY INTERESTED IN THIS RELATIONSHIP,PARTICULLARY  HOW NATURE INFLUENCED HIS LIFE.

CHILDOOD AND MEMORY

HE REGARDED CHILDOOD AS THE MOSTOMPORTANT STAGE IN MEN'S LIFE.

WHEN YOU ARE A CHILD THE PERCEPICTIONS ARE MORE VIDID AND CHILDOOD MEMORIES ARE "FOOD"AND UNDELABLE FOR ALL YOUR LIFE.

MEMORY INSTEAD IS THE MAIN FORCE IN THE GROWTH OF HUMAN MAIN AND IT GIVES TO THE POETS THE POWER THAT THEY NEED TO WRITE.

A CERTAIN COLOURING OF IMMAGINATION

THIS PASSAGE IN TAKEN FROM THE FAMOUS PREFACE .WORDSWORTH EMPHASIZED A NEW STYLE OF POETRY THAT USES A SIMPLE LANGUAGE,UNDERLINES THE AUTHENTICITY OF RURAL LIFE AND THE IMPORTANCE OF IMMAGINATION AND EMOTIONS.

DAFFODILIS OR I WONDERED LONELY AS A CLOUD

THIS POEM ,MADE OF 4 STANZAS, RECORD THE POEM'S EXPERIENCE OF A WALK WITH HIS SISTER IN THE LAKE DISTRICT.

THIS POEM IS VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE WORDSWORTH CONFES HIS LOVE FOR NATURE.WRITTEN IN 1804 IT WAS PUBBLISHED IN 1807.

IN THE FIRST STANZA THE POM IS WALKING ALONE NEAR A LAKE AND HE COME ACROSS SOME DAFFODLIS.

THE POEM DOESN'T DESCRIBE THEM BUT PLACES THEM IN RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LAKE AND THE TREES

IN THE SECOND STANZA WORDSWORTH SHOWS DAFFODILIS AS A PART OF AN UNIVERSAL ORDER.

IN THE THIRD STANZA DAFFODILIS ARE ED TO HE WAVES OF RHE LAKE.

THE BREEZE THAT BLOWS N THE LAKE SYMBOLIZES THE POET CREATIVE.

IN THE FOURTH STANZA THE POET IS AT HOME LYING AND THINKING.

THIS KIND OF SOLITUDE IS DIFFERENT FROM THE MELANCHONY OF THE FIRST STANZA.

COMPOSED UPON WESTMISTER BRIDGE

WORDSWORTH SAID THAT HE COMPOSED THIS POEM,A PETRARCHIAN SONET, ON A COACH WHILE HE WAS GOING TO FRANCE TO HIS GIRL.

IT IS AN EXAMPLE OF POET'S ABILITY TO GIVE EMOTIONAL POWER TO HAT HE DESCRIBES.

THE POET IS DESCRIBING THE CITY OF LONDON FROM WESTMINSTER ABBEY AT EARLY MORNING SO IT IS AL VERY QUITE.

IN THIS POEM THERE IS A VASTE USE OF PERSONIFICATION.

THE URBAN SETTING CAN BE REGARDED AS NATURAL LIFE BECAUSE MAN WHO MADE THE CITY IS HIMSELF NATURAL.

THE SOLITARY REAPER

THIS POEM IS IN PAST TENS WHICH MEANS THAT IT IS A MEMORY AND THE EXPERIENCE IS REENJOYED IN TRANQUILLITY.

IN FACT WILLIAM'S SISTER IN THE DIARIES THAT SHE WROTE REMEMBERS THAT HER BROTHER BACK HOME AFTER A TOUR IN SCOTLAND AND A MEETING WITH A REAPER STARTED READIND WILKINGSON'S"TOUR OF SCOTLAND"WHERE HE FOUNDS SUGGESTIONS FOR THIS POEM.
